{WIAW} My Caveman Christmas

I’m linking up with Jen today for my Caveman Christmas edition of What I Ate Wednesday, all about my first Christmas dinner as a primal eater. It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m in Berlin, so I’m going to make this quick!

A delicious meal of vegetables, protein and a little sweet treat.

Alicia and Andrรฉ came to celebrate Christmas with us, so it was only fitting we made her pancake recipe! We substituted tahini instead of nut butter, and added cinnamon. These were eaten with maple syrup.

We also had scrambled eggs, bacon and fried vegetables. Breakfast just isn’t complete without vegetables!

Not pictured was a bowl of my usual fruit with nutter bomb and coconut cream, and a cup of bulletproof espresso (2 shots espresso + 1 tbsp coconut oil + 1 tbsp butter + 1 heaped tsp xylitol to sweeten =ย  my favourite).

After brunch was gift-opening time. After gifts, we went for a walk on the beach to take advantage of the mild and sunny day we had on the east coast of Scotland.

What a meal!!!!! We had a traditional turkey, but just the breast as a full turkey would’ve been far too much for four people. I slowcooked this in bone broth, white wine and fresh herbs. It was incredible.

We made my Primal Pork Stuffing recipe, then baked it in the oven.

We also made my Potato Gratin recipe, containing cheeses made from raw, unpasteurised organic milk, all from Scottish cheese producers.

Our vegetables consisted of oven-roasted parsnips and carrots, done in coconut oil, salt and pepper.

And Brussels sprouts fried in bacon fat and butter.

I enjoyed this with some Nom Nom Paleo Crancherry sauce.

All primal, all homemade, all so delicious.

Pat requested a primal version of traditional British mince pies, so I worked my kitchen magic and created a worthy primal counterpart. They were so good!

I only had one!

I also made a primal Sticky Toffee Pudding, and was very happy with the result!

Both Christmas dessert recipes were gluten-free, sugar-free and dairy-free. I’ll post these recipes in the new year.

And with all that food came a fridge full of leftovers. Of which we gobbled up the days that followed Christmas.

What did you eat Christmas Day?

How did you spend your Christmas?

Happy New Year!
